Smash the Stigma Pickleball Classic raises $5,000

The Smash the Stigma Pickleball Classic sponsored by the Aberdeen chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention raised about $5,000, according to organizers.

It was Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Strode Center and capped by two championship matches.

In the Chill Division, Chase Sievers and Michael Guzman of Aberdeen defeated Twila Rausch and Vickie Sieben of Aberdeen. The Competitive Division title went to Patrick Duffy and Chris Wong of Sioux Falls, who defeated Aberdeen’s Dan Bettmann and Kwae Htoo. Duffy and Wong took home a $1,000 prize.

The tournament was organized to raise awareness of and money for suicide prevention efforts. There were about 70 participants.
