Police: 2 arrested after stolen pickup crashes into snowbank


Two men were arrested after they stole a pickup and crashed it into a snowbank the morning of Thursday, March 9, police say.

The Aberdeen Police Department was called about 9:40 a.m. to the 100 block of South Jackson Street to investigate a report of a stolen pickup.

“The caller stated that his pickup was left running and unattended while he went inside a business. While inside the business, two individuals stole the vehicle,” according to a news release issued by Aberdeen police.

Within minutes of the call, police say an officer spotted the vehicle near South Dakota Street and First Avenue Southeast.

“The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed southbound. The officer did not pursue, however the pickup crashed into a snowbank near the intersection of South Dakota Street and 6th Avenue Southeast. The two individuals fled the crash scene. Officers arrived at the crash location and were able to track and locate both suspects,” according to the release.

Charges include grand theft, aggravated eluding, police say

The unidentified men face charges that include grand theft, aggravated eluding, driving under the influence, underage possession and consumption of alcohol, obstruction of law enforcement and underage possession of tobacco.

The men are being held at the Brown County Jail and are expected to be in court Friday, March 10, according to the release.
