An Aberdeen home was badly damaged, but nobody was injured in a house fire the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Aberdeen Fire & Rescue responded to a fire reported in the 900 block of South Kline Street at 1:29 p.m.
“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions on the back side of the single-family dwelling. The fire was contained to the involved structure. The home was occupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported,” according to a news release from the fire department.
However, some animals died in the fire, per the release.

The cause of the fire will be classified as undetermined, said Aberdeen Fire Chief Joel Weig.
Aberdeen Fire & Rescue Battalion Commander Stacy Vrchota said the fire started inside the house in the rear portion that contained a bathroom, laundry room and kitchen.
Crews were on the scene until about 8 p.m., Vrchota said. He said there’s no reason to suspect foul play.
The Red Cross is offering financial assistance to the four people who were displaced, said Jennifer Hurst, a duty officer with the Red Cross.
Other responding agencies included the Aberdeen Police Department, Brown County Emergency Management, Brown County Communications Center, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Aberdeen Public Works Department and NorthWestern Energy.
