ABERDEEN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
APRIL 27, 2026 MEETING MINUTES
The Aberdeen School Board met at 5:30 PM on Monday, April 27, 2026. President Aaron Schultz called the meeting to order with the following members present: Mr. Aaron Schultz, Mr. Brad Olson, Dr. Gayle Bortnem, Mr. Brian Sharp, Mr. Kevin Burckhard, and Mr. Darin Beckius. Mr. Mark Murphy was absent.
Alta Three Legs and Talia Bowman were congratulated for earning a state championship in the State Visual Arts Contest. Amna George, Braden Refsland, Donovan Kiesow, Lincoln Rosenau, Jaxon Kaiser, Clara Holcomb, Eve Borchard, Mitchell Golz, Collin Hjermstad, Landon Madsen, Tyler Walters, Heegeon Song, Lokith Gundewar, Baeten Klatt, and Laukia Gundewar were recognized as state FBLA champions.
Ellie Isaak, Daviour Williams, Delainey Falken, Brady Heilman, Mason Muilenberg, Jackson Board, Grey Hauge were congratulated for earning Upper Midwest Emmy Awards. Makayla Torbert was honored for being selected to participate in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band on Thanksgiving Day.

Approval of Donation- Diane Knudson, donation of Art supplies that will be used at Aberdeen Central High School, May Overby Elementary School and TLC, a value of $700.00. d. Approval of Donation- The Blackbaud Giving Fund, a monetary donation that will be used at Holgate Middle School for student activities, a value of $500.00. e. Approval of Grant Application- Delta Kappa Gamma- Holgate Middle School- Lechner, grade 6 students will receive a yearly planner to use which will help with organization, a value of $1,000.00. f. Approval Grant Application- 3M Donors Choose- Simmons Elementary School- Swanson, expanding STEM opportunities in the classroom and enhance student engagement with purchasing Magnetic Tiles, games, Play-Doh, and puzzles, a value of $567.92. g. Approval of Grant Application- 3M Donors Choose- Simmons Elementary School- Freeman, purchasing seating, sensory toys, storage bins, and blocks to integrate hands-on STEM experiences within a special education classroom, a value of $455.82. h. Approval of Grant Application- 3M Donors Choose- Lincoln Elementary School- Torbert, purchase items such as flash cards and prizes to continue Number Ninjas Project, a value of $482.44. i. Approval of Simmons Elementary Admin HVAC Improvements, my recommendation is that the contract be awarded to Custom Sheet Metal Inc., with a base bid of $159,430.00.

Simmons Middle School Principal, Dr. Colleen Murley, shared progress made toward the District goals and recent activities and events.
It was moved by Olson and seconded by Bortnem to approve the 2026-2027 JDC Agreement.

It was moved by Olson and seconded by Sharp to approve the Lunchtime Solutions, Inc. Food Service Management Company Proposal.
All voted Aye.
It was moved by Sharp and seconded by Beckius to adjourn into executive session at 6:26 PM pursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1) for personnel Issue.
All voted Aye.
Schultz declared the Board out of Executive Session at 6:58 PM.
