Boil water advisory lifted for Aberdeen residents

A boil water advisory issued Saturday, Feb. 18, after a water main broke, has been lifted.

The precautionary “boil water advisory” issued for the city’s water system on Saturday was lifted Sunday, Feb. 19. Bacteriological test results indicate that E.coli and other coliform bacteria are not present in the system, according to a news release from the city.

The city regrets any inconvenience the advisory caused and appreciates the patience of those affected.

The Aberdeen Public Works Department responded to a water main leak north of Milwaukee Avenue Northeast Saturday and later issued a low-water pressure advisory for the east side of town.

The city started getting calls about low water pressure from people in the southeast part of town around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. Then, City Manager Joe Gaa said Saturday, calls started coming in from people on the northeast said of town.

It took some time to find the issue because the leak was in a field north of the railroad tracks along Milwaukee Avenue. The problematic line was valved off around 12:30 p.m., Gaa said. That’s when the boil advisory was issued.
