The Northern State women’s basketball team evened its record at 2-2 with a pair of weekend wins in Rapid City.

NSU cruised past the South Dakota School of Mines 82-68 Saturday, Nov. 16.
The Wolves shot 52.5% from the floor, including a season-high 46 points in the paint.

Rianna Fillipi led Northern with 23 points. She went eight of 13 from the field and seven of nine from the free throw line. Maddie Bragg added 18 points and six rebounds. Alayna Benike chipped in with 13 points, going five of six from the floor.
Michaela Jewett came off the bench to score five points and grab a team-high eight rebounds. Northern won the rebounding battle 33-24.
Northern scored 20 points off 12 Hardrocker turnovers.
The Wolves open their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule Thursday, Nov. 21 when they host the University of Mary. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Bragg’s 20 points help lead Northern to first victory
Bragg scored 20 points as Northern State downed Black Hills State 72-60 to pick up its first win of the season Friday, Nov. 15 in Rapid City.
The Wolves used a 23-11 run in the second quarter to build a lead.

Northern scored 30 points in the paint and got 28 points from the bench to improve to 1-2.
Izzy Moore and Jewett added 13 and 11 points respectively and each grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Decontee Smith finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and a steal.

NSU had 39 rebounds compared to 25 for the 2-2 Yellow Jackets.
Roncalli’s Hanson among four recruits
Northern has added four high school recruits to the 2025-26 women’s basketball roster.
They include Aberdeen Roncalli senior Ava Hanson, a 5-foot-10 guard. She is a three-year starter and two-year all-conference selection for the Cavaliers. Last season, she averaged 14 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game and was a Class A all-state honorable mention selection.

“Ava brings length and athleticism to the perimeter. She can guard multiple positions and has the size to be a great rebounder. Her height and length will allow her to post up smaller guards, and she shoots the three efficiently,” Krueger said in a news release.
- Makenzie Carrier, a 5-foot-7 guard from Kasson, Minn. A four-year starter, she averaged double-figure points as a sophomore and junior and more than four rebounds per game. She is a two-time all-conference selection.
- Brooklynn Holmberg, a 5-foot-10 guard from Prior Lake, Minn. As a junior, she averaged 11 points per game and finished with 298 points. She’s a two-time all-conference pick.
- Reagan Rus, a 5-foot-8 guard from Mount Vernon. A four-year starter, she averaged 15.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season as the Titans won the Class A state tournament. She was an all-state and all-tournament team honoree.
