
A Celebration of Life for Carl E. Maack, 74, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 3:00-6:00pm, with a time of sharing at 6:00pm, Friday, September 8th, 2023, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home Fellowship Hall. The family requests casual dress. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. Carl died Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Carl Eugene Maack was born July 24, 1949, to Edward and Olga (Zambo) Maack in Aberdeen, SD. He was raised and attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1967.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1969; serving in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1971.
Carl retuned to Aberdeen where he met the love of his life, Mary Lou Jacobson over a “Pepsi.” They dated, married, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2023. Their favorite song is “Hello Mary Lou.”
Carl Worked many years for McLaughlin Electric and the Aberdeen School System but his favorite job was a school bus driver. He loved his “School Kids” and made sure each one felt special.
Carl inherited his ability “to fix anything” from his dad and grandfather. He enjoyed fixing what others threw away and then he’d give it away. He was a mechanic at heart and loved working on old cars or anything that had a motor or ran.
Carl loved his wife and children but especially loved taking care of his grandchildren and teaching them things. Carl had a special relationship with his Uncle Denzley. They spent many hours “discussing and solving the problems of the world.”
Grateful for having shared Carl’s life are his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou Maack; children: Edward (Danielle) Maack, Marlys (Alan) Fraizer, and Elizabeth (Aleksi) Saarinen; grandchildren: Riley Thomas, Nikita Chambers, Katie Maack, Hudson Maack, Leo Fraizer, Estar Fraizer, Niklaus Fraizer, Luna Saarinen, and Aeliana Saarinen; siblings: Judy (Wally) Dahl, Chester Maack, and Tammy Maack; nieces and nephews: Shannon, Courtney, Justin, and Jenny; brothers-in-law, Fred and Allen Jacobson; and sister-in-law, Burnette Reddy, and families; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Carl in death are his parents, Edward and Olga Maack; son, Christopher Lee Maack; brother, Kelly Maack; in-laws, Marlys and Morris Jacobson; both sets of grandparents; brother-in-law, Richard Jacobson; sister-in-law, Marlys Berg and husband, Martin; and many aunts, and uncles.
