CITY OF ABERDEEN

RESOLUTION NO. 25-06-01R

RESOLUTION DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE MUNICIPAL

ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF ABERDEEN, SD ON JUNE 3, 2025

WHEREAS, on the 3rd day of June 2025, there was held in the City of Aberdeen, South Dakota, a Municipal Election for the purpose of electing a City Council Member – Southwest District and City Council Member – Southeast District for five-year terms; and

WHEREAS, that at the Municipal Election held in three voting centers in the City of Aberdeen, South Dakota on Tuesday, the 3rd day of June, 2025 there were cast the following votes for Office of City Council Member – Southwest District, to wit: Talmage Ekanger received 226 votes and Nicole Schutter received 172 votes, there being a total of 398 legal votes cast; and for Office of City Council Member – Southeast District, to wit: Chad Nilson received 124 votes, Kurt Preszler received 123 votes, and Tiffany Langer received 79 votes, there being a total of 326 legal votes cast; and

WHEREAS, the returns of said election have been delivered and canvassed by the City Council, and the official vote at the Municipal Election was as follows: Talmage Ekanger received a majority of the legal votes cast for City Council Member – Southwest District, and Chad Nilson received a plurality of the legal votes cast for Council Member – Southeast District.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ABERDEEN, that the City Finance Officer is hereby directed to issue the proper Certificates of Election to Talmage Ekanger elected City Council Member – Southwest District, and to Chad Nilson elected City Council Member – Southeast District,  for five-years terms beginning July 1, 2025; any such Certificate of Election to be recognized as superseded and rendered null and void if inconsistent with the results of a recount authorized and conducted pursuant to SDCL § 9-13-27.3.

The foregoing Resolution was adopted at a special meeting of the City Council on the 6th day of June, 2025. Number of Ayes: 5, Number of Nays: 0, Members Abstaining: 1, /s/Travis Schaunaman, Mayor, ATTEST: /s/ Jordan McQuillen, Finance Officer
