RESOLUTION NO. 26-06-02R
A RESOLUTION APPROVING EMPLOYEES COMPENSATION
WHEREAS, the City of Aberdeen is required to fix by ordinance or resolution the amount of compensation of all municipal officers and the times at which the same shall be paid, pursuant to SDCL § 9-14-28; and
WHEREAS, the Human Resources Director, in consultation with and approval from the City Manager, updated, amended, and adopted on June 17, 2026, the Employee Handbook for the City of Aberdeen (“Employee Handbook”) setting forth the personnel policies and work rules for all city employees for calendar year 2026 and thereafter, pursuant to Aberdeen City Code, Sec. 2-112; and
WHEREAS, the amended Employee Handbook complies with recent changes in federal labor and employment law, includes those benefits previously provided to all non-union employees, and adds or revises benefits for non-union employees similar to certain benefits provided to employees represented by Local 0162-0001 of AFSCME; and
WHEREAS, those benefits in the Employee Handbook deemed to be compensation of the city employees are paid bi-weekly, monthly, or at times otherwise set forth in the Handbook.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Aberdeen City Council that the Employee Handbook is hereby accepted and shall be placed on file with the office of the Finance Officer.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the benefits described in the Employee Handbook deemed to be compensation of a city employee are hereby approved and shall be paid in the amounts and at the times set forth therein, and those benefits paid from and after January 1, 2026, are hereby ratified and approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Employee Handbook may be amended from time to time and adopted by the Human Resources Director, in consultation with and approval from the City Manager, and that such amended Employee Handbook shall be placed on file with the office of the Finance Officer and, if necessary, presented to the Council for approval of any changes in benefits deemed to be compensation of a city employee.
The foregoing Resolution No. 26-06-02R was approved after first reading and passed at a regular meeting of the Aberdeen City Council on the 15th day of June, 2026.
