RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF CONTINGENCY BUDGET TO OTHER LINE ITEMS WITHIN 2025 CITY BUDGET
WHEREAS, South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL) 9-21-6.1 allows municipalities to include a budget line item for contingencies in an amount not to exceed five percent of the total municipal budget; and
WHEREAS, SDCL 9-21-6.1 allows the governing body to transfer the appropriated amount by resolution to any other line item within the city budget; and
WHEREAS, the City of Aberdeen has budgeted $450,000 to the contingency line item as allowed by SDCL 9-21-6.1; and
WHEREAS, there is insufficient budget authority in the General Fund for Police Department expenses in the amount of $108,000, in the TIF #19 Debt Service Fund for $50,000, and in the TIF #26 Debt Service Fund for $42,000.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aberdeen that the Finance Office is authorized to transfer $200,000 of budgetary authority from the contingency line item to the General Fund Police Department budget for vehicle expenses in the amount of $108,000; to the TIF #19 Debt Service Fund for disbursement of tax increment in the amount of $50,000; and to the TIF #26 Debt Service Fund for disbursement of tax increment in the amount of $42,000 .
The foregoing Resolution was approved and adopted at a regular meeting of the Aberdeen City Council on the 22nd day of December 2025.
