RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF CONTINGENCY BUDGET TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WITHIN 2026 CITY BUDGET
WHEREAS, South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL) 9-21-6.1 allows municipalities to include a budget line item for contingencies in an amount not to exceed five percent of the total municipal budget; and
WHEREAS, SDCL 9-21-6.1 allows the governing body to transfer the appropriated amount by resolution to any other line item within the city budget; and
WHEREAS, the City of Aberdeen has budgeted $450,000 to the contingency line item as allowed by SDCL 9-21-6.1; and
WHEREAS, there is insufficient budget authority in the General Fund for Fire Department expenses in the amount of $200,000.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aberdeen that the Finance Office is authorized to transfer $200,000 of budgetary authority from the contingency line item to the General Fund Fire Department budget for vehicle expenses in the amount of $200,000.
The foregoing Resolution was approved and adopted at a regular meeting of the Aberdeen City Council on the 16th day of March 2026.
