NOTICE OF 8/11/25
CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
The regular August Mellette City Council meeting was held on August 11, 2025 at 7:00 pm at the fire hall. Council members present: Hartman, Seymour, Deuter, Bunge, Knight, and Bauer. Also present was Rob Lewis.
Per SDCL 1-25-1 Public comments were offered. No one was present from the public for input.
Rob Lewis spoke to the council about making 3rd Street one-way between 2nd Avenue and 4th Avenue during school hours. Motion made by Knight to make it one-way from 7:30am-4:00pm. Second by Bunge. All voted Aye.
Mayor Bauer called the meeting to order. The minutes of the July meeting were read and the financial report was given. There is a correction to last month’s minutes. Deb Wise addressed the council regarding the commercial zoning for her property at 13 W Main Street. A motion was made by Deuter to accept the minutes and the financial report. Second by Hartman. All voted Aye.

MCDF requests a temporary liquor license for September 20th from 2pm-2am for Bingo. Motion made by Bunge to approve. Second by Knight. All voted Aye.
The Redfield Press is closed. Motion made by Bunge to hire the Aberdeen Insider to publish the city’s legal notices and minutes. The paper runs a print version every Thursday. Second by Knight. All voted Aye.
Committee Reports:
Sewer & Water – Lagoon is full so will have to have an early discharge and can get the valve fixed. Benders will come sometime next week to flush the mains and the lift station. Will do the South half of town first. Water pump is not repaired as we are still waiting on gaskets. Discussed water flow on the culverts and manlifts at intersection of 1st Avenue and Cady Street. Will get quotes before proceeding.
Street – Receiving complaints about lawn clippings being on the streets.
Park & Rec – discussed adding new park equipment at the ballpark
Rubble – everything is pushed up and looks nice
Dog & Cat – nothing to report
Council person Knight spoke with Kurt Seymour to haul dirt to North 4th Avenue. Will use Railway and Highway 20 and will be completed by middle of September. Motion made by Deuter to hire Kurt for $17,500. Second by Hartman. All voted Aye. Seymour abstained from voting.
Council was presented the YTD summary of the city’s financials for 2025. Budget plan for 2026 will be presented at first budget reading in September.
Motion made by Hartman to adjourn. Second by Seymour. All voted Aye.
