DCI investigating death at Brown County Jail


The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death of a  Brown County Jail inmate.

Sheriff Dave Lunzman said an inmate was found unresponsive in the jail around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8.

The man was transported to Avera St. Luke’s Hospital and later transferred to Sioux Falls where he died, Lunzman said.

The Aberdeen Police Department conducted the initial investigation, which has since been turned over to DCI, Lunzman said.

Dave McNeil, Aberdeen police chief, confirmed that the police department conducted the initial investigation and that DCI is now handling the case.
