20-year-old woman dies after drowning in Wylie Lake


A 20-year-old woman has died after drowning in Wylie Lake, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

The drowning was reported at 5:38 p.m. Thursday, Aug 1. An off-duty police officer was at the park with his family and immediately started searching for the victim, according to a news release from police. Other emergency responders soon arrived to assist.

The woman was pulled from the water and taken to Avera St. Luke’s Hospital. She died overnight, according to information police released Friday, Aug. 2.

Wylie Lake is formally known as Lake Minne-Eho.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office; South Dakota Highway Patrol; Brown County Emergency Management; Aberdeen Fire & Rescue; and the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish & Parks also responded to Wylie.
