Elizabeth “Betty” Schlechter, 89, of Faulkton, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Faulkton Area Medical Center.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. Liborius Catholic Church, Polo, with Father Randy Phillips presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be held 7:00p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the church with a visitation one hour prior.

Elizabeth “Betty” Schlechter was born at home on the Headlee Ranch, South Dakota on January 15, 1934, to Philip and Mary (Maloney) Wernsmann. Betty attended St. Liborius Grade School and graduated from Fairview High School.

On November 26, 1955, she married Corliss Schlechter at St Liborius Catholic Church in Polo, South Dakota. Betty then resided in an apartment in Miller, Lakeview Assisted Living in Redfield and The Meadows in Faulkton, before moving to the Faulkton Senior Living.

While on the farm, Betty could be seen walking the two and three quarters mile to town to enjoy a cold coke and get a pack of cigarettes. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family during gatherings, camping trips and family celebrations at the shop. She loved taking drives in the country during planting and harvest season. She also enjoyed bingo, playing 6-5-4 dice, and participating in other activities and special events at the assisted living and nursing home. She would enjoy special lunch dates to Dairy Queen with special friend, Karen Pedigo, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie.

Survivors include sons: Dan (Lisa) Schlechter of Centuria, WI, Tim (Betty) Schlechter of Huron, SD, Dean (Stephanie) Schlechter of Faulkton, SD, Corey Schlechter of Sioux Falls, SD; Kevin (Sandy) Schlechter of Pipestone, MN; daughter, Lorie (Wendall) Schlechter of McVille, ND; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Evan, Alex, Jace (Rachel Nelson), Abby (Erik Strand) and Aubrey, Taylor, Callie, Breana (Greg) Ritter and Joseph, Joshua and Joanna, Cory (Bobbi) Young and Bryson and Nicholas, and Erin Kravik, Tyler (Taylor) Schlechter and Trever, Rodney (Muranda) Schlechter and Karstyn and Emerie, Ryan (Miranda) Schlechter and Raynor, Waylan and Hayden Sprague, Rachel (Nathan) Rohrbach and Markus, and Robin Schlechter; Nicole Dinger (Tyler), Casey Dinger and Brooks, Abel and Stetson Schumacher, Amanda Dinger (Nathan) and Brianna Dinger (Brendon).
