Former NBA player Christian Laettner to speak at Boys & Girls Club banquet Feb. 13

Former NBA basketball player Christian Laettner will be the keynote speaker during the 2026 Boys & Girls Club of Aberdeen Area Banquet.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 at the Dakota Event Center, 716 S. Lamont St.

Laettner played for Duke University when the Blue Devils won NCAA championships in 1991 and 1992. He is known for his game-winning shot against Kentucky in the 1992 region finals, which sent Duke to the Final Four with a 104-103 overtime victory.

He also played for the 1992 U.S. Olympic basketball team, often called “The Dream Team,” which won a gold medal.

Laettner was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and spent 13 years playing professional basketball. He was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1993 and was an all-star in 1997.
