Former Northern State distance runner Dakotah (Bullen) Lindwurm crossed the line in 12th place during the women’s marathon at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Lindwurm finished the 26.2-mile run on Sunday, Aug. 11 in 2:26:24. At the halfway mark, she was in third place, and she briefly took the lead during mile 15.
After the race, she told Runner’s World, “And by the time we turned to Versailles, I was like, did I just take out like a Mario Kart shortcut or something because I was in the lead,” she said. “I didn’t know how. So that was pretty cool. And then, man, I mean, they closed hard.”
Lindwurm was the top U.S. finisher. Emily Sisson placed 23rd for the U.S. in 2:29.53.
The win went to Dutch runner Sifan Hassan in an Olympic record time of 2:22.55. Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia took the silver, while Kenya’s Helen Obiri claimed the bronze medal.
Lindwurm competed for the Wolves from 2014 to 2018, earning all-American honors at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing sixth in the 10,000-meter run. She was a cross-country all-American in fall 2017, finishing 34th at the NCAA Division II national meet.
