A Life Well Lived
John Francis Manning was born on June 9, 1948, in Miller, South Dakota, to John T. and Inez (Losey) Manning. He grew up with a strong work ethic and love for his family and community. On June 5, 1971, he married Donna Mae Hulbert at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ft. Pierre, beginning a journey together.
John honorably served his country in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War, receiving his honorable discharge on April 15, 1969. His dedication to service and hard work continued upon returning home, where he worked as an Electrical Lineman for the City of Pierre before venturing into business, successfully running his own arcade and vending business in the Pierre/Ft. Pierre area.
John had a deep love for horses and racing. Whether on the track or in the barn, his passion for the sport was undeniable. Beyond his love for horses, he was known for his kind heart, generosity, and ability to turn strangers into friends. John found joy in helping others, always lending a hand wherever he could.
