Kenneth James Kraft, 59, of Shakopee, MN

Kenneth James Kraft, affectionately known as Ken or Kenny, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the age of 59, surrounded by his loving family in Shakopee. Ken was born on February 14, 1965, to Claude and Cindy Kraft in Spearfish, SD. He leaves a legacy of love, compassion, and boundless dedication to his family, friends, and profession.

Ken graduated from Central High School of Aberdeen, South Dakota. He excelled both academically and athletically. He was actively involved in sports, music, and academics, demonstrating his passion and drive from a young age.

His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue higher education at South Dakota State University and North Dakota State University, where he earned degrees in Civil Engineering, Environmental Design, and Architecture. His academic achievements were complemented by his athletic prowess, competing in football and track and field, throwing the javelin. During his time at NDSU, he embarked on a European Study Tour, confirming his lifelong love for architecture and design. It was during this time that he met his beloved wife, Sonya, whom he proposed to with a written message that could be seen from the airplane ride on her birthday, showcasing his adventurous spirit, love of aviation, and unwavering commitment to love.

Professionally, Ken’s career spanned various prestigious roles, from architectural firms to construction management companies, leaving an indelible mark on numerous projects across the United States. He was a highly accomplished individual, holding several memberships and licenses indicative of his dedication to his profession and the communities he served. He was a licensed architect in nine states, allowing him to contribute his expertise across a wide geographic range. He was renowned for his integrity, dedication, and expertise. He received accolades and respect from colleagues and clients, earning him recognition as a finalist for Project Manager of the Year by the Minnesota Real Estate Journal in 2023. His tenure at Frauenshuh as Vice President of Construction Management was particularly notable, where he played a pivotal role in shaping countless projects and mentoring aspiring professionals.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ken’s warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a devoted husband to Sonya, a loving father to Savannah, Alexander, and their families, and a cherished son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, and friend. Ken’s zest for life was evident in his love for outdoor pursuits, including hunting, fishing, golfing, shooting clay pigeons, and more. His quick wit and memorable sayings brought joy to those around him. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, always eager to create lasting memories and lend a helping hand whenever needed. Renowned for his captivating storytelling and witty sayings. Ken had a knack for bringing joy and laughter to any gathering. A skilled marksman, he found camaraderie and competition in shooting clay pigeons, achieving notable success with his team winning their division in 2021 and boasting two perfect rounds at the MN Horse and Hunt Club. Ken also relished indulging savoring delicious meals paired with a good drink, and occasionally enjoying a cigar, all while basking in the company of loved ones. His adventurous spirit and love for life will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Ken’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community. While his physical presence may be gone, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us every day.

Ken is survived by his spouse, Sonya (Iverson) Kraft, children Savannah (Baird) Cuppy and Alexander (Lexy) Kraft, and grandchildren Carson and Wrenley Cuppy. He is also survived by his parents, Claude and Cindy Kraft, siblings Tammy (Mark) Nibbe, Tracy (Brian) Hansen, in-laws Jerry and Connie Iverson, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Heather Iverson, and nieces and nephews Tyler Nibbe, Christina Nibbe, Jacob Hansen, Mitch and Nicole (Hansen) Leighton, McKenzie Davis, Kacie Iverson, and Katherine Iverson as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Predeceased family members include Ken’s grandparents, Adolph and Katherine Dietterle, and Casper and Catherine Kraft, both of McLaughlin, SD.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 2, at noon at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, 3611 N Berens Rd NW, Prior Lake, with visitation at 11 a.m.
