
LaVonne Carlson, 92, of Aberdeen, SD
The funeral service for LaVonne Carlson, 92, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:30am, Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Matt Spoden officiating. Burial will be at Highlanda Cemetery, Langford, SD at a later date. LaVonne died Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Bethesda Home in Aberdeen.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
LaVonne Knebel was born on September 10, 1932, to Daniel and Minda (Olson) Knebel. She was born at home on a farm on the south side of Opitz Lake. She attended school in Day County and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1950. She attended Northern Normal and taught rural school for two years.
LaVonne married Vic Carlson at Fron Church in 1951. They had four children: Cynthia, Ronald, Lyle, and Susan. They moved to Aberdeen in 1956.
She loved children and working with them. They joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church in 1956. She spent several years teaching nursery school, Sunday School, and Bible School. She spent several years in Alter Guild and was a lifetime member of the Martha Circle.
Her interests were many. She was a charter member of the Aberdeen Area Genealogy Society. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Sons of Norway.
She enjoyed all kinds of music and played in her husband’s band for 15 years. She also enjoyed embroidery, scrap booking, sewing, reading, and gardening.
She loved traveling. She, her husband Vic, and brother Dale visited Austria, Norway, and Sweden where their grandparents were born. She always said, “Travel while you’re young and able.” She was employed at the St. Luke’s Hospital for five years, Control Data for nineteen years, and Ramkota for seventeen years.
She is survived by her daughter: Cynthia Fisher; grandchildren: Joseph Fisher and Victoria Fisher (Ben Futeran); son: Ronald (Diane) Carlson; son: Lyle Carlson; daughter: Susan Quinlan; and grandson: Michael (Lindsea) Quinlan; brothers: Duane (Dianne) Knebel and Dale Knebel.
She is preceded in death by her husband C. Victor Carlson; parents: Dan and Minda Knebel; brother Larry (Gina) Knebel and son-in-law: Steve Fisher.
