Luanne met her future husband, Owen Swanson, at the outdoor movies in Ortley in the summer of 1951. They married May 11, 1958, in Ortley and honeymooned in the Black Hills. She stayed in Milbank for one year while Owen was in the service, then moved to Georgia to join him. They came home and lived in Ortley, Butler, Stratford, Bath, and ended up in Aberdeen in 1967. They celebrated their 25th and 50th anniversaries with their favorite song, “Can I Have This Dance” by Anne Murray.
