A bridge near Mina is going to be dedicated in honor of U.S. Army Pfc. Cy Kaiser.
A dedication ceremony is set for 1:30 p.m. June 22 at the U.S. Army Reserve Center, 115 S. Roosevelt St. in Aberdeen. The U.S. Highway 12 bridge on the south side of Mina Lake will be dedicated to Kaiser.
“While serving with the 104th Infantry Division, Kaiser died a hero’s death Nov. 21, 1944, when he was killed in action in Germany,” according to information provided by the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Our fallen heroes are no longer with us, but their memories live on in the hearts of their loved ones and our state,” Greg Whitlock, secretary of the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs, said in a news release. “Naming our South Dakota bridges in honor of our fallen gives us the opportunity for remembrance, reflection, and respect—for honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to this nation. They cherished liberty and loved freedom enough to lay down their lives to preserve our way of life.”
Naming bridges in honor of combat veterans who died in service is an initiative of the South Dakota departments of military, transportation and Veterans Affairs and Gov. Kristi Noem.
