The Northern State women’s basketball team came away with a sweep of its final two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference road games.
Northern opened the weekend with a 79-65 loss at No. 12 Concordia-St. Paul Friday, Feb. 14 then rebounded with a 77-59 win Saturday, Feb. 15 over Minnesota Duluth.
The Wolves are now 16-10 overall and 13-7 in the NSIC standings. Northern currently occupies fourth place in the standings. The top-four teams at the end of the regular season earn a first-round bye in the NSIC Tournament.

Northern got off to a slow start Friday against the Golden Bears, going 9-25 from the floor in the first half for 36% shooting. Concordia went 17-11 in the first half hitting six three pointers and led 45-25 at the half.
The Wolves flipped the script after the break, and outscored the Golden Bears 44-30. Madelyn Bragg, who led the Wolves with a game-high 23 points, capped off an 11-1 run in the fourth quarter with a layup in the final 40 seconds to make it a 70-67 deficit. Northern only managed one field goal after the 40-second mark on a Rianna Fillipi layup with three seconds left.
The Wolves wasted little time Saturday in Duluth putting up 22 points in the first quarter while holding the Bulldogs to just six en route to the 18-point win.
Bragg again led the Wolves with a double-double, scoring 27 point while grabbing 11 rebounds. Michaela Jewett also went for a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.
Fillipi added 22 points, six boards and four assists in the game. Northern held Duluth to 36% shooting and allowed just 3-13 on shots behind the three point line.
Northern closes out its regular season with two home games Friday, Feb. 21 against Sioux Falls and Saturday, Feb. 22 against Southwest Minnesota State.
The Wolves hold a one game lead over Sioux Falls for fourth place in the conference standings.
Wolves drop final two conference road games
Northern State men’s basketball dropped both road games falling 87-66 Friday, Feb. 14 to No. 24 Concordia-St. Paul and 83-52 to Minnesota Duluth Saturday, Feb. 15.

Northern drops to 2-24 overall and 1-19 in the NSIC.
The Wolves hung with the 24th-ranked Golden Bears in the first half Friday night, holding Concordia to 39% from the floor and trailed by just three, 31-28 at the half.
Second half was a different story as the Golden Bears found their shooting touch and opened with a 12-4 run to make it a 49-32 contest with 15:25 on the clock. Concordia outscored the Wolves 56-38 in the half. Four of the five starters for the Golden Bears finished in double figures led by Marcus Skeete’s game-high 26 points.
Saul Phillips’ squad had four players that hit double figures led by Kaleb Mitchell’s 16 points. Tobi Obiora came off the bench to score 13 points and grab six rebounds. James Glenn (14) and Devon Brooke (10) rounded out the double digit scoring.
It was a much different start to the game Saturday in Duluth as the Bulldogs raced out to a 15-4 lead inside the game’s first five minutes. Northern trailed by as many as 19 points in the first half.
Obiora was the only Northern player to score in double figures finishing with 14 points. The Wolves went 7-25 from behind the three point line and shot 40% from the floor in the game.
The Wolves, eliminated from the NSIC Tournament, end their season with home games Friday, Feb. 21 against Sioux Falls and Saturday, Feb. 22 against Southwest Minnesota State.

Northern wrestling rallies for dual win over Minnesota State
Northern State wrestling picked up the final three wins of its dual with Minnesota State to come away with a 21-14 win.
Northern closes out its home campaign with a with a 5-1 record.

Pape
Trailing 14-11, Damen Pape got the Wolves back in front with a major decision win over the Mavericks’ Evan Farley at 184 pounds. Tyson Lien followed that win up with a 7-1 decision win over Grant Cook at 197 pounds. Nathan Schauer wrapped-up the third-straight win at 285 pounds with a 5-1 decision over Tanner Gaffey.
Braydon Mogle, No. 12 at 141 pounds came away with a 9-1 decision over Colton Hush while Wyatt Turnquist, No. 4 at 149 pounds got a 9-1 decision win over No. 14 Walker Bents.
Northern will now prep for the NCAA DII Super Region V Saturday, March 5 in Sioux Falls.
Wolves nab ninth at NSIC Swim and Dive meet

Osborne
The Northern State swimming and dive team ended its four-day NSIC tournament in ninth place. The team win went to Augustana.
Haley Osborne took eighth in the 200M free and 14th in the 500M free. Brianna Back took home 12th in the 100M individual medley.
The Wolves 800M freestyle relay team of Osborne, Back, Emma Moore and Abbegael Ninas nabbed a sixth-place finish in the event.
Northern diver Jaci Flockhart finished 10th in the one meter diving preliminaries but failed to qualify for the finals.
Northern’s Martens, Jackson set new marks at SDSU indoor meet
Seth Martens set a new school indoor record in the 300M crossing the line 34.50 to win the event Friday, Feb. 14 as the SDSU Classic in Brookings. Drew Salfrank (34.93) and Carter Dingham (35.39) took second and third, respectively in the 300.
Chris Weber took the win Saturday, Feb. 15 in the 60M with a time of 6.78, while Julian Scott captured the men’s 200M with a time of 21.97.
Sam Tremelling took second in the pole vault clearing 4.70M.
On the women’s side, two runners broke their existing school records.
Alli Jackson broke her previous record in the 600M with a time of 1:35.09 which helped her to the win. Summer Carlson also established a new school record in the 800M with a time of 2:16.28.
Renea Taylor took second in the 200M with a time of 25.13.
Northern finished the two-day event with 30 top-15 finishes.
Northern returns to Brookings Friday, Feb. 21 for the SDSU Last Chance Meet prior to the NSIC Championships set for February 28 and March 1 in Mankato.
