Citywide snow removal starts at 6 a.m. Sunday


With a blanket of new snow, city plows will be out beginning at noon on Saturday, Feb. 28.

A full, citywide snow removal effort will begin at 6 a.m. Monday, March 1 with emergency routes, followed by north-south streets in Zone 2 and all streets in Zone 3 at 7 a.m. Clearing of city parking lots will also begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Plowing of east-west avenues in Zone 2 begins at 1 p.m.

Plowing of the Zone 1 downtown commercial area begins at 12 a.m. Monday, March 2.

Cars parked on the streets during the designated times for snow removal will be subject to tickets and towing. With the exception of the downtown area, it is illegal to shovel snow into the streets.

The city of Aberdeen issued a snow alert Saturday morning following newly fallen snow. Emergency routes will be cleared starting at noon, according to information from the city. Ticketing and towing will not be enforced, but cars should be cleared from the streets where possible.

More details on the city’s snow removal plans are expected later.

According to the National Weather Service in Aberdeen, about 4 inches of accumulation is expected. The Aberdeen area is in a winter weather advisory until 3 p.m.
