No political campaign signs allowed in county rights of way

Political campaign signs are popping up all over the place in advance of the June 2 primary, including places they shouldn’t be — like the county rights of way.

That’s the area on either side of county roads. In rural areas, it’s generally marked by a fence or utility poles.

Brown County Highway Superintendent Dirk Rogers said there have been several instances involving political signs in rights of way and that his office is receiving complaints.

All campaign signs, both in and out of city limits, must be placed on private property.

Rogers said state law allows rights of way to be used only for signs related to the road.
