Ramona R. Erickson, 95, of rural Aberdeen, SD
Ramona R. Erickson, 95, of rural Aberdeen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at her home.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A family graveside committal service will be held at a later date at Scandinavia Cemetery.
Ramona Rae (Egle) Erickson was born June 14, 1929 to Elmer Albert and Elizabeth Agnes (Rucktaeschel) Egle at Vail Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. Ramona attended rural school and high school in Wabasso, Minnesota. She entered nurses training at St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, South Dakota; graduating in 1949 with a degree as a registered nurse. She was employed at the Britton hospital until 1950.
On October 7, 1950, Ramona was united in marriage with Oliver Andrew Erickson. She was then employed by Dr. F.H. Cooley in Aberdeen. Oliver and Ramona lived in Aberdeen for a few years before settling on the 1880 Erickson Homestead near Stratford, SD. Together, they raised their four children at the farm: Rick, Gregg, Sheryl, and Mark. Ramona was a dedicated farm wife, preparing and delivering many meals.
Ramona was a member of Scandinavia Lutheran Church of Stratford. She served as a 4-H leader for the dog project for many years. Ramona enjoyed taking road trips with Oliver and friends. She spent many summer hours tending to her large garden and enjoyed the vegetables and flowers the garden produced. Ramona had a talent for crocheting and making large, beautiful doilies for gifts. She also enjoyed baking and would have chocolate chip or monster cookies in her cookie jar for visitors.
Ramona was especially proud of her grandchildren. She enjoyed transporting them to 4-H dog shows and practice for many years, buying each of them sets of collectibles, and spending time one-on-one taking them “birthday shopping”.
Ramona is survived by her children: Gregg (Kristie), Sheryl (Allen Luce), and Mark (Kristin Teigen) and six grandchildren: Becky, Andy (Shari), and Tom (Courtney) Erickson, Letitia Smith, and Katherine and Christopher (Marissa) Erickson. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Lucy, Claire, Blake Rae, Charli, Bennie Rae, and Vance Erickson. Ramona is also survived by two sisters, Twiyla (William) Newman and Marsha (Lyle) Guggisburg, and sisters-in-law Wanda Egle and Charlean Erickson.
Ramona was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Oliver in 2018; her son, Rick and an infant daughter; siblings Jerome Egle, Blaine Egle, Montee Egle, and Gloria Johnston; and her parents.
Ramona’s family is grateful for the time and dedication provided by her caregivers over the years who allowed her to stay in the home she loved.
