REDFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT

MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING

A regular meeting of the School Board, Spink County, South Dakota, of Redfield School District #56-4 was held at 6:00pm. on the 11th day of August with the following members present: Evans, Piehl, Edgar, and Lambert. Administrators present were Pudwill, Edwards, Becker, Philips, and Hansen.

Board Chair Evans called the meeting to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Action #9 Motion by Piehl second by Edgar to approve the agenda with adding number 5 and 6 in the consent agenda and adding Executive Session 1-25-2(1). Yes; All- Motion Carried.

Public Comment – Athletics have all either started practice or will have their first practice this coming week.

Action #10- Motion by Edgar, second by Piehl to approve the consent agenda. Yes- All; motion carried.

Action #11 – Motion by Piehl, second by Edgar to amend the minutes of the July 28th meeting to include the review of the Open Meeting Law Brochure. Yes – All, Motion Carried.

Budget was discussed.. Edwards showed where she made changes based on the discussion at the previous meeting. Instead of dipping into cash on hand in CO, there is now an overflow of about $60,000.00.

Action #12– Motion by Piehl, Second by Lambert to approve the financial statement and put it on record as it was stated. Yes – All Motion Carried.

Action #13 Motion by Piehl, second by Edgar to go out for fuel bids a second time. Yes-All, Motion Carried.

Action #14 – Motion by Piehl, second by Edgar to approve the Elementary Handbook as presented with the updated changes, with the agreement to review and re approve if changes need to happen throughout the year. Yes-All, Motion Carried.

Action #15 – Motion by Edgar, second by Piehl to approve Aberdeen Insider as the official newspaper for the district. Yes-All, Motion Carried.

Piehl had asked about backpacks and if they would ever be allowed back in middle school and high school. Becker explained backpacks are not allowed in the class rooms. They can be brought into the building and unpacked and left at their lockers. Due to fire marshalls feedback and school safety, backpacks will not be allowed in the classrooms.

Action #16 motion by Edgar, second by Piehl to go into executive session at 7:11PM. Yes-All, Motion Carried.

Declared out of executive session at 7:38 P.M.

Action #17 Motion by Piehl, second by Lambert to adjourn at 7:38PM. Yes-All, Motion Carried.
