Robert “Bob” Marshall, 78
Robert “Bob” Walter Marshall, 78, of Algona, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Born October 14, 1946, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Bob was the son of William and Mildred “Millie” (Weston) Marshall. He grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1964. During his school years, Bob was an avid ice hockey player and proudly captained the Playmaker hockey team to victory in the 1961 Snow Queen Hockey Tournament.
After high school, Bob pursued studies at the Aberdeen School of Commerce and later at the North Dakota School of Science, where he specialized in upholstery. In 1968, he opened his first upholstery shop, “Mr. M’s,” launching a career rooted in craftsmanship and creativity.
Bob had a deep love for the outdoors and motorsports. He raced motorcycles and mini-sprint cars with passion. In 1967, during a Fourth of July motorcycle race, Bob suffered a serious accident that left him unconscious for 17 days. Over time, he found a new love—canoes. He spent countless hours building and restoring them.
Bob is survived by his daughters: Miranda Marshall of Algona; Molly (Fernando) Perez of Whittemore; and Bethany (Wagner) Caldas of Des Moines, along with their children. He is also survived by his sisters: Marilyn (Dennis) Maloney, Joan (Larry) Ganje-Fischer, and Ann Marshall, all of Aberdeen, SD; and by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William “Billy” Marshall.
