
A Celebration of Life for Ronnie Schumack, 72, of Leola, SD, will be 2:00-5:00pm, Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Leola Legion Club. Military honors will be at 3:00pm by the Roy S. Hickman Post 78. Please wear casual dress, camo especially welcomed. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the McPherson County 4-H Sharpshooters, c/o Jodi Kallas, Cortrust Bank, Leola, SD. Ronnie died Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Sanford Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, with his wife, children, and grandchildren by his side.
Ronnie Lee Schumack was born on January 30, 1951 to Emanuel and Irene (Leidle) Schumack, in Aberdeen, SD. Ronnie went to country school at Koto & Carl Township, graduating from Leola High School in 1969. He worked in the Minneapolis area, before returning to farm. He worked for Jack Waltman farms and Rich Waltman Hay moving.
He entered the US Army Reserves on June 27, 1971- February 26,1977. He married Peggy Lapka on September 21, 1974 in Leola, SD. They had two children Shantel and Cole. Ronnie farmed with his folks and eventually bought the farm.
Ronnie was a member of the Forbes American Legion Post 277. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
As Ron’s wish for his family and friends gather at the Leola Legion, remember the good times, tell stories and maybe a couple lies. Enjoy your time together and be grateful for what you have, your friendships, your loved ones, and the new people you will meet. Don’t be sad, remember the good. He would want you to all to be happy and enjoying your time together. Make memories cause no one can take them from you.
Grateful for having shared Ronnie’s life are his wife, Peggy Schumack; children: Shantel Schumack, Aberdeen and Cole (Shanna) Schumack Fargo,ND, granddaughters, Aspyn Schumack and Pyper Schumack; and sister: Jenney Bender and family, Shaun (Jennah) Bender and Tiffaney Johnson (Jason Morris), all of Fargo.
Preceding Ronnie in death were his parents Emanuel & Irene Schumack; infant sister, Carol Schumack; brother-in-law, Glenn Bender; and nephew, Durand Bender.
Burial will be at a later date.
