NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING ACADEMIC CONTENT STANDARDS
A public hearing will be held at the Dakota Event Center, 720 Lamont St., Aberdeen, South Dakota, at 9 a.m. Central Time, September 28, 2026, to consider the adoption and implementation of the following: Career and Technical Education content standards, World Language content standards, and Library content standards. This is the first of four public hearings regarding these standards.
CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE): The goal of the CTE standards is to equip students with knowledge and skills they need to succeed in postsecondary education and future careers. The CTE Content Standards will cover: Middle School CTE Standards, Essential Skills for Success Standards, Foundational Course Standards, Capstone Course Standards, and the content standards for the following career clusters: Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering; Agriculture; Architecture and Construction; Arts, Entertainment, and Design; Digital Technology; Education; Energy and Natural Resources; Financial Services; Health Science; Hospitality, Events, and Tourism; Human Services; Management and Entrepreneurship; Marketing and Sales; Public Service and Safety; Supply Chain and Transportation.

WORLD LANGUAGE: The goal of the World Language standards is to equip South Dakota students to effectively communicate in more than one language with an appropriate understanding of cultures, to be globally literate, and to be workplace ready.

LIBRARY: The goal of the library standards is to equip students with the skills they need to ethically consume, evaluate, and engage with information in all formats leading to the creation of new knowledge.
Persons interested in presenting public comment and testimony on Library standards may do so by appearing in person at the hearing, or by submitting written public comment to the Department of Education, ATTN: George Seamon, 800 Governors Drive, Pierre, South Dakota, 57501. The deadline to submit any such written comments for consideration by this board is seventy-two hours before the date of the public hearing.
Notice is further given to individuals with disabilities that this hearing is being held in a physically accessible place.
