A former Northern State University track and cross-country runner will represent the United States in the summer Olympics in Paris.
Dakotah (Bullen) Lindwurm runs in the women’s marathon on Monday, Aug. 12. The 26.2-mile race begins at 1 a.m. Central. The race will be live on the Peacock streaming service.

A native of St. Francis, Minn., Lindwurm competed for the Wolves from 2014 to 2018 and has gone on to have a successful professional career.

Lindwurm earned the first all-American honor of her college career at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing sixth in the 10,000-meter run. She was a cross-country all-American in fall 2017, finishing 34th at the NCAA Division II national meet.
The two-time Grandma’s Marathon winner finished third in the U.S. Olympic Trials in February to punch her ticket to Paris. She’s a member of the Minnesota Distance Elite running team.
A 2020 graduate of the University of South Dakota will also compete in the Olympics.
Chris Nilsen qualified in the men’s pole vault. The event begins Friday, Aug. 3.
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Nilsen also qualified for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, which were held in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He won a silver medal.
Aberdeen Circus to host amateur baseball region starting Saturday
Aberdeen Circus will host an amateur baseball region tournament starting Saturday at Fossum Field.
Other teams playing include Baltic and the Sioux Falls Brewers. Aberdeen plays Baltic at 2 p.m. with the winner taking on the Brewers at 4:30 p.m. Sioux Falls will play the loser of the first game at 7:30 p.m.

There are also two games Sunday. Aug. 4 beginning at noon. It’s a double-elimination tournament with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
Redfield Dairy Queen opened Class B tournament play with a 9-4 victory over Faulkton on Sunday, July 28 in Redfield.
Peyton Osborn finished with three hits and four runs batted in. Redfield is now 18-0.

- Andre Cobb has been named the new head girls basketball coach at Aberdeen Christian. He’s a teacher and assistant boys soccer coach at Central High School. Cobb has long lived in Aberdeen. He played college football at Richmond University in Virginia.
- Feature winners from the Brown County Speedway races on Friday, July 26 included Scott Hansen of Garden City in Midwest mods, Maria Broksieck of Goodwin in street stock, Kent Arment of Aberdeen in late model, Mike Stearns of Aberdeen in modifieds and Brad Kopecky of Miller in super stock. - Brian Schuring of Webster notched his first hole in one Aug. 25 at Olive Grove Golf Course in Groton. He used his nine iron to ace the 135-yard fourth hole. Schuring used to be the athletic director in Groton.
- The South Dakota 4-H shooting club tied for second place with Missouri at the 2024 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships in June in Grand Island, Neb. Louisiana won the event. Clay Crawford of Marshall County finished fourth overall in the individual shooting competition. Austin Crawford of Marshall County was 10th. The South Dakota team was composed of 35 shooters, and teams representing 40 states were at the event.
