Sports roundup: Wings open NAHL Showcase with win

The Aberdeen Wings used two third-period goals and a strong performance in between the pipes to open their NAHL Showcase with a 3-1 win over Midwest Division opponents the Wisconsin Windigo Wednesday, Sept. 24 in Blaine, Minn.

Wisconsin’s Ronnie Hill opened the scoring 34 seconds into the second period to give the Wendigo a 1-0 lead. Wings center Matthew Martin responded 15 seconds later scoring off the assist by Easton Edwards and Jack McDonough to make it 1-1 heading to the final 20 minutes.

Owen Pitters would score what proved to be the game-winner for the Wings with 15:36 left off the assist by Briggs Orr and Taven James. Pitter returned the favor assisting on James’ with 50 seconds left in the game.

Adam Dybal got the start in goal and turned back the final 29 shots he faced.

The Wings (3-0) will played the US National 17-under team Friday, Sept. 26 at 5:15 p.m.
