This year’s National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger food drive is Saturday, May 10.
Held in partnership with United Way of Northeastern South Dakota, it is the largest single-day food collection event in the country, according to a news release from United Way.
The drive helps restock local food pantries at The Salvation Army and Journey Home during a time when inventory starts to run low.
Letter carriers in Aberdeen will collect non-perishable food items along their postal routes on Saturday. Residents are asked to leave donations by their mailboxes.

“Because we go to each doorstep, we see firsthand the needs in our neighborhoods,” Dan Bruckner, letter carrier and longtime food drive coordinator, said in a news release. “It gives us a unique perspective, and we’re proud to make a difference.”
The local food drive collected more than 17,000 pounds of food in 2024, an amount that can help stock shelves for about four months.
“This drive gives everyone a chance to be part of the solution,” Angie Cleberg, United Way of Northeastern South Dakota impact coordinator, said in the release. “Year after year, Aberdeen shows up, and we know this year will be no different.”
