The Aberdeen Public School District has been working with the Aberdeen Police Department concerning a threat of school violence that has been determined to be a hoax, according to a message sent to parents by the district.
The threat had been circulating among students the evening of Thursday, May 4, according to the message.

“We have been working with the Aberdeen Police Department and have confirmed that this exact same message has been identified as a nationwide hoax and is being circulated in many states,” the message reads. “Rumors continue to spread through social media and we wanted to assure you that all measures have been taken to protect the safety of our staff and students.”
The message concluded by saying it was sent to assure parents and guardians that safety is the district’s top priority.
According to a news release from the Aberdeen Police Department, the police will have an increased presence in the Aberdeen Area Schools and school zones throughout the day on Friday, May 5.
