Two water-related emergencies result in one weekend death

One person is dead and another is in the hospital after two unrelated water-related emergencies were reported over the weekend.

Emergency responders were called to a residence at Richmond Lake the evening of Saturday, Aug. 16, said Brown County Coroner Brian Koens. A man in his late 50s was retrieved from the water, but efforts to revive him with CPR were unsuccessful, Koens said.

He said the man had a medical issue while in the water. The death could have been caused by the medical issue or the man could have drowned as a result of the medical issue, Koens said. An autopsy will be conducted, he said.

The man died at the scene, Koens said. He said the man’s wife was home at the time of the incident.

Deputies from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded, then called Koens, he said.

At 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, emergency responders were called to a private residence on the north side of Aberdeen about a possible drowning.

Capt. Tony Bisbee with the Aberdeen Police Department said a juvenile male was retrieved from the water and taken to the hospital, where he remains.

It’s unclear what led to the boy ending up in the pool, Bisbee said.

Aberdeen police and Aberdeen Fire & Rescue responded to the call, he said.
