High school polls: Warner football team third, volleyball squad second

Warner ran its record to 3-0 with a 37-0 shutout of Ipswich and remains ranked third in Class 9A in the latest South Dakota Media Prep Football Poll released Monday, Sept. 9.

The Monarchs face 2-0 Faulkton on Friday, Sept. 15 at home. The Trojans whipped Herreid/Selby 48-6 last week as quarterback Gian DiMaria threw for 110 yards and three touchdowns. Faulkton is ranked No. 2 in Class 11B.

Groton Area improved to 2-0 with a 14-7 road win at Webster and is receiving votes in the 11B poll.

Warner, Northwestern ranked in Class B volleyball poll

Fresh off of a sweep of Leola/Frederick, Warner remains No. 2 in the South Dakota media high school volleyball poll. The Monarchs are now 7-0 and picked up two first-place votes.

Northwestern won two of three matches at a tournament in Wakonda over the weekend and is now 8-2. The Wildcats slipped from third to fifth in the Class B poll.

Groton Area ranked No. 2 in girls Class A soccer poll

The Groton Area girls soccer team sits second in Class A  in the latest South Dakota High School Soccer Coaches Association Poll.

Groton defeated previously unbeaten West Central 2-1 on the road Saturday, Sept. 7 to improve to 4-1-1 on the season. The Tigers host Vermillion at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

Both the Aberdeen Central boys and girls soccer teams are receiving votes in the Class AA poll.
