Who can vote and where in Tuesday’s Aberdeen City Council election


Tuesday, June 3 in Election Day in Aberdeen.

Registered voters in the Southeast and Southwest districts will each pick one person to serve on the city council for five years.

The candidates in the Southeast District are:

  • Incumbent Tiffany Langer, co-owner of The Swagg Shoppe. She used to work for the South Dakota Retailers Association.
  • Chad Nilson, construction technician for Banner Associates who previously worked for the city as a code enforcement officer and fire marshal.
  • Kurt Preszler, owner of MEGA Construction. He used to be in the telecommunications industry, working on cellphone and TV towers.

There are two candidates in the Southwest District:

  • Talmage Ekanger, a crop insurance agent for Nagel Agency. He used to work as an attorney and as a technical operations manager at 3M.
  • Nicole Schutter, assistant professor of teacher education and chairwoman for the Teacher Education Department at Northern State University. She was previously a teacher and principal at Mike Miller Elementary School.

Voting will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brown County Courthouse Annex, 25 Market St.; Best Western Ramkota Hotel and Convention Center, 1400 Eighth Ave. N.W.; and AmericInn 301 S. Centennial St.

There are no city council races in Aberdeen’s Northeast and Northwest districts, so those residents cannot vote Tuesday.
