Brown County is included in a disaster declaration related to spring flooding approved by Gov. Kristi Noem on Friday, June 2.
The disaster declaration accounts for damage that happened between April 9 and May 5 in Brown, Clark, Covington, Day, Faulk, Grant, Hand, Marshall, Potter and Roberts counties, as well as the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation. The order seeks federal resources to help with flood damage on state, tribal and local government property.
The declaration seeks assistance in covering $2.3 million in damage, according to a news release from the governor’s office. The damage was a result of above normal snowfall and cold conditions in late spring. The rapid snowmelt caused river and overland flooding, per the release.
