Actor and marijuana grower Jim Belushi will appear at the grand opening of the Dakota Herb dispensary later this month in Aberdeen.
The shop was the first medical marijuana dispensary to open in Aberdeen.
A meet and greet is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 25 at Dakota Herb, 3307 Seventh Ave. S.E., Suite 110. That’s on the east side of town near Holiday Inn & Suites and Hampton Inn & Suites.

Belushi is the man behind The Blues Brothers Brand medical marijuana, which will soon be offered exclusively in South Dakota at Dakota Herb stores in Aberdeen, Huron, Brandon and Vermillion, according to Dakota Herb CEO Joe Stavig. The stop is part of a two-day tour with Belushi visiting all four stores. Appearances in Vermillion and Brandon are planned on July 24, with a stop in Huron later in the day on July 25, Stavig said.
Dakota Herb opened April 18 and is now one of two dispensaries in town, the other of which is Genesis Farms.
Stavig said the grand opening is part of an exclusive agreement to grow Blues Brothers genetics at Dakota Herb’s South Dakota grow facilities.
Stavig said the first Blues Brothers harvest has been completed and flower will soon be available.

Belushi has been in movies and TV shows including “Trading Places,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “About Last Night,” “Guardian of the Universe” and “Jingle All the Way.” He has also performed as Brother Zee in an updated version of The Blues Brothers Band.
His brother, John, famously portrayed “Joliet” Jake Blues in the original “Blues Brothers” movie and starred in many other films, including “Animal House” and “Stripes.”
Belushi’s farm started with 48 plants as part of Oregon’s medical marijuana program in 2015, according to a news release. He is a proponent of the plant’s beneficial properties across a spectrum of uses and advocates for patient rights, adult use legalization and freeing cannabis prisoners.
