A groundbreaking ceremony is set for Thursday, April 25 for Northern State University’s Business and Health Innovation Center.
The program begins at 3 p.m. on the east side of Lincoln Hall, 1200 S. Jay St.
Both Lincoln and Briscoe halls will be razed to allow for the new building on campus.

The full cost of the Business and Health Innovation Center is estimated at $31 million, with $29.5 million in federal money coming through the American Rescue Plan Act. Additional funding was approved by the South Dakota Legislature.
Slated for completion in late 2025, the Business and Health Innovation Center will include facilities for business, banking, finance, accounting, entrepreneurship, nursing and social learning. It will also be home to the Innovation and Startup Center and serve as a hub for community members to directly engage with innovative business and health programming and resources.
“This is a generational opportunity to address critical workforce needs in business and nursing and engage in partnerships to advance regional health care and economic development,” Northern State President Neal Schnoor said in a news release.

Northern State is completing development of its Bachelor’s degree in nursing. The program is awaiting approval by the Higher Learning Commission, but prospective students can now enroll in pre-nursing courses.
“We are thrilled about the prospects this facility brings to advancing education, research and community engagement,” Mike Wanous, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Northern, said in the release.
