A man who unsuccessfully tried to get into two passing vehicles is in custody, according to a news release from the Aberdeen Police Department.
Police dispatched officers to reports of a suspicious person near the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and West Melgaard Road around 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 10. The calls resulted in a large police presence.
“Multiple callers reported that there was a man running down the highway. Prior to law enforcement’s arrival, the male unsuccessfully attempted to get into two vehicles driven by passing motorists,” according to the release.

When officers attempted to visit with the man, he fled. They pursued him on foot for several minutes and he entered a field and eventually a slough with waist-deep water, according to the police department.
After 15 or 20 minutes, the man surrendered to officers, according to the release.
The man was taken to the hospital for medical clearance, then to the Brown County Jail. He’s charged with attempted criminal entry of a vehicle and obstructing law enforcement, according to police.
