It’s time for spring cleaning, and the Brown County Landfill is ready to help.
The landfill’s annual free spring cleanup runs Friday, April 26 through Saturday, May 11.
A drop-off site will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 27. It will be near Jensen Rock & Sand about two blocks south of the White House Inn on South Fifth Street.
Items that can be left at the drop site include batteries, furniture, appliances, electronics, scrap metal, as many as four car or pickup tires and other items.
No shingles are allowed at the drop site, and large loads, grass, leaves, trees, shingles, paint, waste oil, propane tanks and antifreeze must be taken to the landfill.

- Other miscellaneous waste.

4,000 vehicles expected to visit landfill during spring cleanup
Landfill manager Mike Scott said about 4,000 vehicles will visit the landfill during the spring cleanup period.
The landfill address is 13225 379th Ave. From the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and U.S. Highway 12 on the western edge of Aberdeen, that’s 5 miles west and about a mile and two-thirds north. All loads must be covered and secured.
Covering loads is important because nobody wants trash in their ditch, Scott said. People should only use asphalt roads to get to the landfill, he said.
