Robert “Bob” Troske, age 94 of Clark, SD and formerly of Turton, SD, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM and one hour prior to service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Turton, SD with a prayer service and rosary to follow at 6:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Turton, SD. A burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Turton, SD with full military honors. All are welcome to lunch and a time of fellowship back at the church after burial.The funeral will be live streamed and able to be viewed at the time of service on the Furness Funeral Home Facebook page.
Robert, the sixth of ten children, was born July 16, 1929 to Frank and Lucy Troske on the Troske farm south of Turton. He attended Dix Country school through the 7th grade and then Turton High School graduating in 1947. Robert enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950. He served one year on a Destroyer and three years on a Submarine during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954.
Robert returned home in 1954 and started farming east of Turton where he raised grain and livestock until his retirement in 1994. In 1955, he was united in marriage to Marve LaBrie at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Turton. They made their home on their farm east of Turton. To this union they were blessed with two children, John and Gina.
Robert enjoyed spending his time going to Arizona in the winter; golfing, fishing, and playing cards. Robert especially enjoyed gardening during the summer months and sharing his produce with the community.
Robert was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church in Turton, member of the local VFW Legion for over 60 years, a director at the Farmers State Bank in Turton for 40 years and a member of the Conde School Board for 10 years.
In 2008, Robert married Nina Mehlberg of Clark, SD.
Robert is survived by his children: John Troske of Conde; Gina (Ed) Malsam of Aberdeen; grandchildren: Steven Malsam, Jason Troske, Christopher Malsam, and MiKayla (Alex) Bellefeuille; and great grandchildren Oakley and Havyn. He is also survived by a stepdaughter: JoAnn (Dennis) Peoples of Rapid City and family, Tyler Peoples and Courtney Peoples; his brothers: LeRoy (Beverly) Troske, North Oaks, MN; Frank (Roberta) Troske, Vellevue, WA; and Gary (Joanne) Troske, Kelso, WA; sister in law Patricia (Ron) Troske, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marvel and second wife, Nina, parents Frank and Lucy Troske, sisters Eleanor Lien, Irene Zipf, AnnaBelle Vogel, Murle Breen, and brothers Irvin Troske and Ronald Troske.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers any memorials be donated directly to St. Joseph’s Choir, Team Turton or GiGi’s Playhouse in Fargo, ND which is a non-profit that helps people with Down Syndrome.
